11 Plus

Competition for grammar school places is now higher than ever. As a tutor I provide guidance and support in the following areas -

How can I help my child?

Parental involvement is absolutely crucial when it comes to the 11 plus journey for your child. While having a tutor is incredibly beneficial, it's not a substitute for the support and guidance that only a parent can provide. Here's why your involvement is key:

  1. Emotional Support: Preparing for the 11 plus exam can be stressful for a child. Your encouragement, reassurance and understanding are invaluable in helping them navigate this challenging time.
  2. Motivation: Your involvement can help keep your child motivated and focused on their goals. By showing interest in their progress and celebrating their achievements, you can inspire them to keep working hard.
  3. Understanding the Process: As a parent, you have a unique understanding of your child's strengths, weaknesses and learning style. This insight can help you work with me to tailor their study plan to suit their individual needs.
  4. Consistency: While tutors play a significant role in teaching new concepts and strategies, it's important for parents to reinforce these lessons at home. Consistent practice and review outside of tutoring sessions can significantly improve your child's retention and understanding of the material.
  5. Communication: By staying involved in your child's 11 plus journey, you can maintain open communication with their tutor. This allows you to stay informed about their progress, address any concerns or challenges they may be facing and work together to develop strategies for improvement.

Remember, your role as a parent is irreplaceable. By actively participating in your child's 11 plus journey, you can provide them with the support, encouragement and guidance they need to succeed.

Testimonials

"Andrea worked with my son after he started to become anxious about SATS. It wasn't that we wanted him to get top marks. It was more that we wanted him to feel confident in his abilities and for that first exam experience to be as positive as possible. She's really worked wonders with him. He's so upbeat about the approaching test week. She's really given him the little boost he needed to be able to go into it all feeling like he's ready. And despite him being notorious for moaning about homework, he genuinely enjoys his classes with Andrea. She's so encouraging that he comes out feeling like an absolute Maths and English wizz!"
Laura - UK
"My son has made great progress with Andrea after finding it difficult to focus in his large class. Just an hour a week has made a huge difference academically. He is now really proud of his achievements."
Tim - UK
"We are thrilled with the progress our daughter has made since starting her sessions with Andrea. She is so engaged in each session and comes out every week asking if she can do more!"
Kate - UK
"Andrea has drastically enhanced my child's writing skills. Over the past year, we have seen significant improvement in both my son's writing ability and openness towards learning. He was previously a reluctant writer, however he now feels confident to express himself and looks forward to his weekly sessions."
Annabelle - UAE
"My son's experience with Andrea has been incredibly positive. Initially, he lacked confidence in his abilities. She not only taught him the content he had to learn but also instilled the confidence he needed to succeed. He genuinely enjoys the classes, which are well-paced and structured to maintain his interest. His improvement has been amazing to see! She is very adaptable, tailoring each session to his needs and any challenges he faces that week.. She is approachable and easy to communicate with, making the learning process smooth and enjoyable. I highly recommend Andrea for anyone seeking a supportive and skilled instructor."
FLORENCIA- UAE
"When we embarked on looking for a Tutor to help our 10-year-old son prepare for secondary school entrance exams, Andrea was recommended to us.
From our initial discussion over the phone, we felt Andrea had the passion and skills to guide our son to success. We felt we didn’t need to search elsewhere.
Andrea made our son’s weekly Tutor sessions, fun engaging and challenging. Even at one point where our son found it difficult how to ‘get started’ with creative writing exercises, Andrea shared different methods, diagrams and tips to ensure he never got stuck in this situation again.
Each lesson was well balanced with constructive critique and praise and our son felt energised and focused as a result.
Andrea was always open to feedback from us as parents and she listened and observed our son carefully to ensure she got the best from him, without our son feeling overwhelmed.
Andrea is such a wonderful person who is easy to connect with and helped our son thrive and pass the entrance exams he sat.
We would highly recommend Andrea."
